Litigation Associate – Oakland

Burke, Williams & Sorensen is a full-service law firm with deep expertise in litigation and provides high-quality legal services to public agencies, private entities, and individuals throughout California. Burke offers a collaborative environment where attorneys work alongside seasoned practitioners to deliver effective and strategic representation.  We are seeking an associate with 3-5 years of experience to join the expanding Litigation team.  The ideal candidate will have:

• Excellent writing, research and analytical skills
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, and additional litigation documents
• Engage with in-house clients, experts, third-party administrators, opposing counsel, and witnesses
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on substantive legal issues
• Participate in client interviews, witness preparation, depositions, mediations, and trial preparation.
• Attend court hearings and assist in trial proceedings as appropriate.
• Collaborate closely with senior attorneys and partners throughout all stages of litigation, including appeals and enforcement of judgments.
• Assist in defending complex civil litigation matters involving:
• Government tort liability and public entity defense
• Civil rights and constitutional claims (including excessive force and wrongful arrest)
