
Litigation Associate – Oakland

We are seeking an associate with 3-5 years of experience to join the expanding Litigation team. The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent writing, research and analytical skills
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, and additional litigation documents
- Engage with in-house clients, experts, third-party administrators, opposing counsel, and witnesses
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on substantive legal issues
- Participate in client interviews, witness preparation, depositions, mediations, and trial preparation.
- Attend court hearings and assist in trial proceedings as appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with senior attorneys and partners throughout all stages of litigation, including appeals and enforcement of judgments.
- Assist in defending complex civil litigation matters involving:
- Government tort liability and public entity defense
- Civil rights and constitutional claims (including excessive force and wrongful arrest)
The pay scale for associates at Burke ranges from $160,000 – $190,000 plus annual performance based bonuses. The actual salary within that range will depend on the selected candidate’s years of practice and experience. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
