School District Need Not Reveal Teachers’ Names in Association with Academic Growth Scores in Response to Public Records Act Request

The California Court of Appeal recently ruled that the Los Angeles Unified School District (“LAUSD” or “District”) was not required to reveal the names of teachers when it released other information relating to Academic Growth Over Time (“AGT”) scores to a newspaper under the California Public Records Act (“CPRA”). The Court ruled that unredacted AGT scores are exempt from disclosure under the “catch-all” exemption of the CPRA because the public interest served by not disclosing the teachers’ names clearly outweighed the public interest served by disclosure.
