Municipal Associate – Northern California
May 07, 2026Burke, Williams & Sorensen is a full-service law firm with deep expertise in public law and municipal representation, advising cities, counties, special districts, and other public agencies throughout California. We are seeking an associate with a minimum of 2 – 5 years of experience to join our expanding Public Law team.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience with public agency or municipal law
- Excellent writing, research, drafting, and analytical skills
- Strong work ethic, self-starter, and team-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage matters independently and interface directly with public officials and staff
- Admission to the State Bar of California
The associate will be expected to:
- Review and draft agreements, including public agency and municipal contracts
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda
- Assist with matters involving public contracting, procurement, and regulatory compliance
- Research and analyze issues arising under the Political Reform Act, the FPPC Regulations, similar ethics laws, the Ralph M Brown Act, and the Public Records Act
- Research and analyze issues related to land use planning and zoning, the Subdivision Map Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act
- Support attorneys with transactional and advisory matters for public agency clients
- Communicate effectively with clients, public officials, and colleagues as needed
The anticipated base salary range for this full-time role is $150,000 – $190,000 plus annual performance-based bonuses. The actual salary within that range will depend on the selected candidate’s years of practice and experience. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
