What does a governing board do when charter oversight becomes crisis management? Livermore Valley Joint USD’s board and administrative team were tasked with responding to their charter schools’ bankruptcy filing; allegations of child cruelty; failure to make payroll; failure to pay teacher pension contributions; allegations of improper grade changes; improper operation of a private school; and loss of WASC accreditation. Learn how Livermore Valley Joint USD performed the unprecedented task of opening a public school mid-year to accommodate an influx of nearly 1,000 former charter school students and to provide them with a welcoming and stable academic community in which they could continue their education, while still meeting its legal oversight obligations.
