Burke Brown Act Compilation (2026)
Jan 05, 2026Senate Bill (SB) 707, which goes into effect on January 1, 2026, made significant amendments to the Ralph M. Brown Act (Brown Act). See Burke Public Law Update on SB 707 of October 10, 2025 for details on these changes.
One of the most immediate impacts to local agencies under SB 707 is the mandate to provide a “copy” of the Brown Act to “any person elected or appointed to serve as a member of a legislative body of the local agency.” (Government Code section 54952.7)
While this directive on its face seems simple to comply with — neither the Legislature nor any State agency actually compiles the myriad provisions of the Brown Act into a single document. To address this need, Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP has created a compilation of the text of Brown Act in effect as of January 1, 2026.
We hope that this handy copy will, like the Brown Act itself, aid in the conduct of the “people’s business.”
