Edith Sanchez Shea

Edith Shea is an experienced civil litigator and she has represented private and public clients in state and federal actions and appeals.  Edith maintains a varied litigation practice and has handled matters in the areas of life, health and disability insurance, bad faith insurance law, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”) litigation, employment law, and construction.  She has also represented clients in complex actions and class actions.

Prior to entering the private sector, Edith was a Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Justice and tried cases to verdict before the United States Court of International Trade, and otherwise represented the United States before that court and before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Edith has successfully resolved numerous matters through dispositive motions, including a recent grant of summary judgment in a rescission matter and the grant of a motion to dismiss without leave to amend in an employment matter.  She has also tried cases to verdict on behalf of corporate clients, before the United States District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California, and before the Superior Court for the State of California and she has briefed and argued appeals before the California Court of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit.

Edith has also resolved numerous cases through alternative dispute resolution.  In addition to representing clients in many mediations and settlement conferences, Edith has served as a mediator and as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Neutral for the Los Angeles Superior Court.  She also completed training on Mediating the Litigated Case at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law.

Edith has spoken at professional conferences.  She lectured on class action developments at the ABA Conference in 2016, on deposition topics at the 2014 Eastern Claim Conference and on developments in ERISA litigation at the 2012 Defense Research Institute Conference.

Edith is fluent in Spanish.
