Joaquin Vazquez

Joaquin Vazquez is a partner in Burke’s Public Law Practice Group. He has devoted his practice to representing cities and other public agencies for over 14 years. He serves as Assistant City Attorney for the cities of Monterey Park, Wildomar, and Yucca Valley. He also serves as Deputy City Attorney for the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, and Bellflower.

Joaquin regularly advises city councils, planning commissions, city managers, department directors, and staff on legal issues affecting California cities. His practice includes housing, land use and planning, economic development, CEQA, development agreements, public contracting, municipal governance, the Housing Accountability Act, the Density Bonus Law, the Ralph M. Brown Act, the California Public Records Act, elections, ethics, conflicts of interest, and implementation of new legislation affecting local agencies. He has substantial experience with complex development projects and other matters requiring coordination among elected officials, staff, developers, and the public.

Previously, Joaquin served as Assistant City Attorney for the cities of San Fernando, El Segundo, El Monte, and Delano and as special counsel to numerous California public agencies. This experience has given him a practical understanding of municipal operations and the legal, operational, and policy considerations that arise across City departments.
