Position Overview

Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP is seeking an experienced IT Director to strategically oversee and enhance the firm’s information technology infrastructure and operations across 10 California office locations. This role, primarily based in downtown Los Angeles, is integral to aligning technology initiatives with the firm’s business objectives, ensuring robust cybersecurity measures and compliance, and driving innovation to support legal practice efficiency and client service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic IT Leadership
    • Develop and execute IT strategies aligned with firm-wide business objectives.
    • Identify and leverage emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage and enhance service delivery.
    • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the firm.
  • Cybersecurity and Compliance
    • Lead the firm’s comprehensive cybersecurity program, including policy development, risk management, and incident response.
    • Ensure strict adherence to data privacy regulations and professional ethical obligations regarding client confidentiality.
  • Infrastructure and Technology Management
    • Oversee all aspects of network, server, storage, cloud computing, telecommunications, and data-center management.
    • Ensure technology infrastructure supports hybrid and remote working environments seamlessly.
    • Evaluate and implement cloud solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and business continuity.
  • Legal Technology Expertise
    • Manage firm-specific technology systems including document management, e-discovery platforms, case management, and compliance software.
    • Lead integration of legal technologies that support practice groups and client service delivery.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Supervise, mentor, and develop the IT team, fostering professional growth and maintaining high performance and morale.
    • Provide effective training programs for attorneys and staff on new technologies, cybersecurity awareness, and efficient tool usage.
  • Vendor and Budget Management
    • Manage relationships and negotiations with technology vendors and service providers.
    • Develop, administer, and monitor IT budgets, ensuring strategic investment and cost efficiency.
  • Project Management
    • Oversee technology projects, including systems upgrades, implementations, and migrations, ensuring timely delivery and minimal disruption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years in senior management roles within AMLAW 200 or similar-sized law firms.
  • Deep expertise in cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and risk management frameworks (ISO, NIST, SOC 2).
  • Proven experience with legal industry software
  • Relevant certifications are highly desirable.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Proven capability to align technology strategies with business and client objectives.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to firm offices.

Compensation

  • The salary range for the position of Information Technology Director at Burke is approximately $175,000 to $235,000 annually. The actual salary within that range will depend on the selected candidate’s years of practice and experience.
