Education Law Alert

Governor Brown has signed Assembly Bill 215 (“AB 215”), which revises portions of the dismissal and suspension statutes for public school district certificated employees in California. Many of the revisions relate to employees charged with “egregious misconduct” as a new subset of “immoral conduct.” In addition, AB 215 alters various statutory provisions pertaining to mandatory reporting requirements, admissibility of evidence, timing of notice and hearing timelines hearing officers, filing and service requirements, rules regarding immediate suspensions, and discovery and depositions, and these revisions could affect mandated cost recovery. AB 215 will become effective on January 1, 2015.
