Public Entity Defense Litigation Associate (Los Angeles)

Feb 05, 2024

Burke, Williams & Sorensen is seeking mid-level and senior associates to join its Los Angeles office and work as part of an expanding team of Public Entity Defense attorneys.  Burke’s Public Entity Defense team represents public entities in catastrophic personal injury, premises liability, and civil rights litigation.

The ideal candidate will have litigation experience in state or federal court, and will be well-rounded, with an aptitude for research and writing and an interest in depositions and trial advocacy.

The pay scale for associates at Burke ranges from $140,000 – $215,000 plus annual performance-based bonuses.  The actual salary within that range will depend on the selected candidate’s years of practice and experience.

The firm offers a hybrid work arrangement option and an annual telecommute budget to support remote work.  The firm’s billable hour requirement is 1850.  Attorneys receive competitive health insurance benefits, 401(k) with partial match, and are eligible for annual discretionary and billable hour bonuses.

Burke is committed to a culture of inclusion.  New associates are assigned to an “Associate Buddy” to assist with their transition to Burke.  Our robust DEI Committee runs a Mentor Circles program that helps attorneys navigate through the firm and provides connection and enrichment opportunities, an Education Program that hosts periodic trainings, and a Civic Engagement Program that connects Burke attorneys with civic groups in the communities where we practice law.

Burke’s pro bono program affords attorneys opportunities to contribute in ways which are most meaningful to them both personally and professionally by giving associates billable credit for up to 40 hours of pro bono work.

Burke also supports attorneys’ business development goals by providing each associate with a yearly budget for attendance at continuing legal education and conferences.

Burke values integrity, diversity, professional growth, and personal fulfillment for everyone working at our firm and we encourage all interested candidates to apply by emailing a cover letter, resume, references, and writing sample to recruiting@bwslaw.com.  EOE.
